Newborn Baby Photography Suffolk

Newborn Baby Photography Day

It seems lots of ladies I know have recently become Mums!  So I decided it would be a great idea to hold a newborn & baby photography day at my home in Suffolk with two newborns in the morning and two older babies in the afternoon.  I was joined on the shoot by an amazing photographer I really admire – Kay Young.

Kay Young

Kay is the main tutor at Aspire Photographic Training for Children & Baby Portraits.  I met some amazing people at Aspire in Cumbria when I did my training, and with Kay being based in the South, I was thrilled when she agreed to visit me for the day to share with me all her tips and creative ideas for newborn photography.

Styling for the Shoot

I share with Kay a love of natural photography, keeping looks very timeless, beautiful and soft.  I know there are lots of newborn photographers out there using an abundance of props, buckets and various other bits and pieces to add to the images.   Don’t get me wrong, I do love props and have collected a lot over the past couple of years which I use in my portrait work.  But for newborns and small babies, I much prefer to keep the looks very natural.  I have collected a wide range of lovely textured blankets from places such as Zara Home and Baby Prop Shop, and some gorgeous little hats and wraps in soft, plain colours.  I feel that keeping images really natural and simple will ensure they won’t date and allow your little one’s personality to shine through.

My Home – A Relaxing Space for You and Baby

At my home, I have a dedicated, warm and welcoming client area that is a lovely place for Mum to relax, let baby feed and sleep, whilst we let the shoot unfold, and take our time.   I can also come to your house if you prefer.  It can take a couple of hours or more for a newborn shoot so I definitely recommend setting aside a morning for the shoot.   To capture that lovely tiny baby look, I suggest we get together when your baby is between 7 and 14 days old. Do call me to arrange a provisional date during the last few months of your pregnancy – it can always be moved if your delivery date is early or late.

What the Mums Say

Laura, mother to gorgeous Gabriel below said to me in an email after receiving her images….   “I really feel that you captured his little personality and these are such lovely photos. Before I know it he will be toddling around so it is great to have a few photos of him when he is little.”   I’m thrilled Laura felt I captured his personality, as that’s really what it’s all about!
