I love Southwold for portrait shoots as it offers great backgrounds for photos, and as we only had a short amount of time and the sun was shining brightly, we decided to stay close to the pier which is great for shade and lots of interesting textures. The other end of the beach with its gorgeous beach huts offers a totally different look, and you can see another one of my shoots using the lovely huts here. Do get in touch if you are looking for Suffolk photography, whether weddings or portraits, I’d love to chat! Here are some of the images from our mini-shoot…
It’s always lovely to have customers returning to me each year for another family portrait shoot and I was delighted when Sarah & Dylan got in touch to see if we could get together again as their two girls are growing up fast. We headed to West Mersea Beach in Essex to make use of the lovely beach huts which are so pretty and unusual.
With the late September sun shining, we went in search of a little shade with the girls running between the beach huts which made for some great fun photos, and the wooden boards at the back of the huts made a lovely, colourful backdrop for head shots. Sarah had dressed the girls in pretty summer dresses in pastel shades, co-ordinating perfectly with the surroundings.

I always enjoy photographing older children as they tend to really enjoy the experience and take direction well. These two lovely girls are the daughters of my friend Sue, who asked me to create a collection of images & an album for her husband for a special birthday.
So on a very windy December day, we headed down to Old Felixstowe where there is a lovely mix of textures and colours. I love the beach huts and the wooden groins on this beach, as both provide lovely texture and colour for portraiture.
We had the beach pretty much to ourselves, and although it was pretty chilly, the soft winter light was so easy to work with. So portraits don’t always have to be a summer thing, winter can be equally as lovely, if you don’t mind wrapping up a bit!

Becky Mantin – Portrait Photography Suffolk – Southwold Beach
ITV Weather Forecaster/Presenter Becky Mantin got in touch with me as she was looking for a portrait photographer in Suffolk, to update her own press shots as well as a few pictures with her family. I was thrilled that she picked me, having searched for a photographer via Google images, and she really liked the images of mine that came up in the search, which so was lovely to hear. It’s great to know that my efforts to improve my SEO are actually working!
Originating from Norwich, Becky was the face of ITV Anglia weather before landing the ITV national weather slot which she has been presenting since 2005. I’ve always liked her style on TV (she always seems to be so cheerful!) so I was really looking forward to meeting up with her..
The idea of the shoot was to get some new photographs that Becky could use for her new company – Becky Mantin Products and her award-winning product – The Nappy Grab Bag. Becky wanted some natural looking ‘non-studio’ shots, and she suggested Southwold Beach – one of my favourite places in Suffolk. Once we had spent some time getting her new imagery done, Becky’s two sons and husband were coming along to join us.
On the Day
We arranged to meet at Southwold on a glorious sunny day. We were lucky to have access to a gorgeous little beach hut down at the quiet end of the beach, and here we chatted first while Becky touched up her make up and we discussed clothing options. Throughout the shoot, we giggled a lot and I discovered that Becky’s slightly quirkily sense of humour is very much like my own! It was great to work with her, and she was just as lovely and bubbly in person as she is on our screens.
Becky’s Kind Words
I was delighted that Becky loved the images I produced for her, and was chuffed to bits with the testimonial she gave me…
“Usually I dread photo shoots – lots of messing around setting up, fussing with lighting and all that palaver… Clare, however, was incredibly efficient! She told me exactly what she needed me to do to get the shot, was relaxed and funny throughout and, crucially, made me look far, far nicer than I am in real life! Hooray! I really look forward to Clare capturing our most special family moments in years to come – a total and utter gem!”

Coco Brown Lifestyle Shoot
Suffolk-based company Coco Brown got in touch with me to help them refresh their marketing imagery for their country clothing brand. They had lots of images of their items in a studio setting, but needed some with models with more of a ‘lifestyle’ feel. The company is owned and managed by two young entrepreneurial sisters Alice and Rosie, and all the clothes are all designed and made in Britain, mostly by the sisters themselves. So I was really excited to get involved with this project!
Ahead of the shoot, I went to meet Rosie for a cup of tea and a look around the location we were going to use – the gorgeous Ampton Hall Estate in Suffolk, close to Bury St Edmunds, famous for its horse-racing meetings. What a beautiful location – complete with little copse, a lake, beautiful stone walls, not to mention the wonderful Grade II listed hall itself. On the morning of the shoot, I loaded up my boot with a few little props and made my way over to the estate. We were joined by two beautifully photogenic models, Josie and Jen, and despite it being early March, were blessed with a fabulously mild and sunny day. Hooray! Last time I worked for this family, I was doing a family shoot for them in torrential rain(!), so was very grateful for the gift of sun! What the Client Said…
I was thrilled to receive this email from Alice and Rosie when they saw their images….”Wow, we are blown away by the photos, they are really are incredible so it’s taken us so long to chose. We really are chuffed to bits and so excited to use them on the new site”. If you like what you see and need lifestyle or clothing brand photography in Suffolk or nationwide, please do get in touch!
